Fairy tale adapts its narrative to suit the readers. However Hansel and Gretel does not change much despite its gruesome narrative. Therefore this study aims to analyse the significance of the difference between the characters of Grimm rsquo s (1857) and Guenther rsquo s (2014) Hansel and Gretel. The two-fairy tales rsquo characters are dissected based on how each of the narrative function of both fairy tales using Vladimir Propp rsquo s Dramatis Personae. The study findings show that the 1857 version define its character based on Christianity thus it is a story of two believers who is saved by their faith as God never forsake them and they are sent for a mission to defeat an anti-Christ. On other hand the 2014 version define its character based on the value of wisdom and kinship. Therefore the 2014 version is a story about two clever children who survived because of their teamwork.
