Abstract

Collaborative writing strategy is a strategy that requires the students to write in pairs or groups. This strategy asks every member to share their ideas with the other members to solve a problem in the writing activity. The advantage of this strategy is that it can be easier for the students to reach the writing goals because they can share their ideas and content so they can understand what they should do to solve a problem. By sharing the ideas and content this strategy makes the students feel more confident with what they write. This strategy has been applied but there is no study about students rsquo perception toward collaborative writing. Therefore this research aimed to know about how the students existing practice and perception toward collaborative writing strategy to solve a problem in a writing activity. This study used a survey with random sampling as the method. The instrument of this study was a questionnaire 20 questions was share with the ELT students as the participants. The result of the survey showed that most of the students stated that this strategy solve the problem in a writing activity. Since collaborative writing strategy help studetns solve the problem this strategy also makes the students feel more confident of what they write.
