M.A. Keywords 9/11 Aftermath Propaganda Film Terrorism A Mighty Heart. September 11 2001 has become a turning point of the world. The blasting tragedy on both the symbol of established capitalist power the World Trade Center and the symbol of established power intelligence the Pentagon has marked the initiation of a new era in the history. Not only has the Cold War ended but it is also the rises of the era of post 9/11. In response to this President Bush called for a war. Besides the military forces the war of ideas or propaganda is far more significant than ever. In this very circumstances of war on terrorism Chossudovsky (2003) said the corporate media are controlling the public mind. The world is insisted on seeing the reality published in the public through media either news media or even media entertainment. Propaganda after 9/11 should be able to convince especially the Muslim world that the Islamic terrorist is the current hazardous group. One of the essential propaganda tools is propaganda film since Hollywood movies are prevailing worldwide. A Mighty Heart is one of the films depicting the issue of 9/11 aftermath. The purpose of this research is to analyze whether this film is a propaganda and if so how the propaganda operates in the film to potentially influence the viewers. In order to answer such questions I use some theories of propaganda techniques a slight theory of persuasion and public opinion and other theories supporting this analysis. So far very few do I find researches about Propaganda in the 9/11 aftermath neither do I find research about A Mighty Heart using the approach of propaganda. Meanwhile myriad analysis on propaganda films of the Cold War and the World Wars are found. Therefore this thesis is worth conducting. The results of the analysis show that A Mighty Heart does have a power of persuasion that makes it a propaganda film in the 9/11 aftermath. A Mighty Heart applies propaganda techniques in order to be able to influence the viewers to approve what the propagandist disseminates. The film exhibits so strong emotional appeals that the viewers can hardly deny the woman viewpoint in general and Muslim viewpoint in some parts. Propaganda techniques such as name calling glittering generalities transfer testimonial plain folks card stacking bandwagon and identification are employed in the fabrication of reality and fabrication of us and them which play significant roles in the effectiveness of propaganda in this warfare. The application of the techniques above-mentioned as I have attempted to analyze have enriched A Mighty Heart to have a huge potency as a propaganda film for the public in the 9/11 aftermath.
