Keywords competence entrepreneurship business survival. In relation to their efforts to maintain their business traditional Small and Medium Enterprises (henceforth UKM) need a sound and consistent positioning strategy in a dynamic competition environment. It calls for a continuous improvement. Likewise the on going changes are also a ceaseless paradigm of competition. In order to manage those changes traditional UKM should be able to find a sound basis to face their competitors (double loop learning). Those competitors may be a new comer in the industry or market. Therefore traditional UKM should find a way to overcome every barrier in penetrating an industry. It is a learning process in which this learning is highly dependent on their awareness towards strategy and the use of knowledge as well as information from the organization. The objective of this research is to describe the entrepreneurship competence in business survival. There are 4 items described in relation to business survival namely (1) the existing role of traditional business environment in improving competence and business survival (2) existing elements in the traditional business environment in improving competence and business survival (3) the meaning of entrepreneurship learning according to the understanding of traditional UKM and the process of entrepreneurship learning and (4) the role of entrepreneurship competence in business survival. The approach employed in this paper is a qualitative one. The data for this research in the form of series of question-answer exist in social interaction comes from 2 sources the writer and 15 other informants. Data collection activities were conducted by employing observation method. The instruments utilized in collecting the data were human instrument and data collection. To ensure their validity the writer then conducted a data triangulation activity. Data analysis was executed by employing data presentation data reduction and verification and conclusion activities. The data analysis was begun with identifying questions and responses clarifying questions and responses along with their characteristics determining the type and principle of using each question (from these initial three stages a tentative conclusion was drawn followed by a triangulation activity) and concluding the type of questions responses and their usage principles. The development of traditional UKM is influenced by several elements commonly related to entrepreneurship activity namely suppliers agents warehousing government relatives etc. In reality many traditional UKM know and have a relationship with their relatives only. Everything related to business activity and wok is given to their relatives. Obviously this entrepreneurship process needs an interaction with other resources to create a conducive business environment. Their interactive necessity towards these resources have proven that traditional UKM have actually made a rational choice. Entrepreneurship learning is a critical factor in entrepreneurship development. Therefore small entrepreneurs need to be given the access and great opportunity to have education training and guidance to learn from their business activities.
