ABSTRAK Sari Nor Lila. 2017. Penerapan Problem Based Instruction (PBI) variasi Talking Stick untuk Meningkatkan Berpikir Kritis dan Hasil Belajar Siswa Kelas IV SDN Kelayan Barat 3. Tesis. Jurusan Pendidikan Dasar Program Pascasarjana Universitas Negeri Malang. Pembimbing (1) Prof. Dr. Heri Suwignyo M.Pd. 2017. Application of Problem Based Instruction (PBI) Talking Stick variation to Improve Critical Thinking and Student Learning Outcomes of Grade IV SDN Kelayan Barat 3. Thesis. Department of Primary Education Postgraduate Program Universitas Negeri Malang. Advisors (1) Prof. Dr. HeriSuwignyo M.Pd. (2) Prof. Dr. SugengUtaya M.Si Keywords Implementation of Problem Based Instruction Talking Stick critical thinking of the students Based on the results of interviews observations and pre-actionit can be seen that students critical thinking ability is still low and learning outcomes are still below the lowest required passing gradebecause the learning process focused more on the achievement of cognitive aspects students only receive information and memorize the material from the teacher the lesson is still using the lecture method and assignment in providing learning learning media used in the form of images that have on the students book so that students tend to experience boredom. The purpose of this study is to (1) improve students critical thinking skills and (2) increase student learning outcomes. This type of research usedis Classroom Action Research. The subjects of the study were the fourth-grade students of SDN Kelayan Barat 3 Banjarmasin which were 35 students. These instruments include 1) observation sheets 2) tests and 3) documentation. Stages in the research flow in the form of cycles with 3 stages namely 1) planning 2) implementation and observation 3) reflection and follow-up. The findings of the study indicate an increase in critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes in cycle II. In the first cycle students critical thinking ability is still low and student learning outcomes under the lowest required passing grade therefore need to be reflected at the next meeting for the ability to think critically and student learning outcomes can achieve the criteria for the completeness of the action set that is by giving warning giving point and reward in classroom management. The results of this classroom action research were (1) students critical thinking ability in the first cycle of learning through the application of PBI variation of Taking Stick reaching 47% and in cycle II increased by 81% (2) the result of student learning cycle I through application of PBI variation of Taking Stick reach 49% and in cycle II increased by 81%. Suggestion in this research (1) critical thinking ability for teacher is expected to give information about how to improve student s critical thinking ability for other researchers is expected to help provide information on how to improve student learning outcomes by one of them reminding students critical thinking skills (2) student learning outcomes are expected to add information as input and consideration in choosing the learning model and performance coaching to tie the quality of teachers.
