Keywords geography textbook development Dick and Carey model. Geography textbook for SMA grade X of second semester written by Sugara (2006) concerning atmosphere material and its impacts toward life is still far from ideal first geography text neglects the aspect of truth in language fact/data concept generalization the truth concerning picture provided and the comprehensibility of the material based on Standard National Education Committee (BSNP) that gives priority to 1) content component 2) presentation component. Second geography textbook does not reflect the particular characteristic of knowledge concerning geography that is including formal study aspect (space environment and the complexity of an area). Because of that it is needed an alternative in solving problems with developing a textbook heading for betterment in each of those aspects. The product of textbook developed based on norm in geography science and KTSP curriculum through the modification of Dick and Carey model (2001). Its procedure consists of ten stages though in this study the researcher only develop five stages out of ten that are (1) identify standard of competence basic competence and indicator based on BSNP concept (2) analyze materials of subject (3) textbook arranging and writing (4) textbook validating (5) revise the final product as a result in developing textbook. The developed textbook is in the form of Geography subject for SMA/MA grade X concerning Atmosphere material and its impacts toward life. This development is aimed for resulting a textbook suitable for the norm in geography science. The result of content material test toward textbook includes in good category. The result of field test toward textbook includes in very good category that is the average of proportion is 1922 or 80%. The average value of students level of reading ability (mean) is 16.8% which apt with the ability criteria in understanding reading text that is students include in good category that is 75-84%. It is suggested to the future researchers to utilize endorser books as references to accomplish the weaknesses of the textbook. By taking references from indicators of those books the teacher can develop wider creativity and contextual teaching with utilizing the environment of the students. There are many things in students environment that have not utilize yet maximally in learning process. For dissemination it is suggested that observation steps should be conducted until summative evaluation stage to know the effectively and efficiency of the textbook. Steps in conducting dissemination are (1) held a seminar in regional scale even in national scale about developing a textbook especially geography textbook for SMA/MA (2) introducing the textbook in Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) forum concerning geography subject and (3) publish the textbook in a rubric or column of writing books in a website. For further development it is suggested to develop books to two semesters and field test with taking a sample nationally all around Indonesia.
