The reinvention of addition concept of positive integer refers to a process of reinventing the concept of addition of positive integer. The process of seeking for reinventing the concept of addition of positive integer must be the result of the students learning experiences. The role of the teacher in this process is important so that the process of reinvention directs to invention of knowledge. The core concept of addition of positive integer is the combination or addition of two positive integer into one positive integer. The concept of addition of positive integer becomes the main priority at the first grade of elementary school because it is the basic concept needed to solve elementary problems in our daily life. In order to assist the students to reinvent the concept of addition of positive integer this research was conducted to develop instruction by using game method. The game method was developed through the following procedures free game guiding game generalization representation pre-symbolization symbolization and formalization. This research focused on (1) the steps of instruction by using game method to assist the students to reinvent the concept of addition of positive integer (2) the process of reinvention of the concept of addition of positive integer by using game method. The research design was classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted at the students of grade IB at SDK Mater Dei Probolinggo. The data were obtained from the result of observation interview questionnaire field note video recording and the result of evaluation. The research data was reported by using descriptive qualitative method. The result of the research shows that (1) there are some steps of instruction by using game method (a) step one covers establishing groups consisting of 4 students with various academic competence digging the students prerequisite knowledge (b) step two covers introducing the materials (the concept of ones and tens) by using Dienes block and computer studying in groups to reinvent the concept of addition of positive integer individual test (c) step three covers helping the students to set conclusions on what they have learned. (2) The process of reinvention towards the concept of addition of positive integer followed these steps (a) free game in which the students classified the Dienes block as introduction with the concept of addition as a combination of two groups of Dienes blocks (b) guiding game in which the students classified the Dienes blocks based on the ones and tens in order to reinvent the concept of ones and tens (c) generalization in which the students reinvented the concept of ones and tens in certain numbers from the regular pattern of Dienes block (d) representation in which the students showed the concept of addition by combining the Dienes blocks ones with ones tens with tens tens with ones (e) pre-symbolization in which the students reinvented the concept of addition by combining the Dienes blocks with their numbers (f) symbolization in which the students reinvented the concept of addition of positive integer with symbols in mathematics (g) formalization in which the students reinvented and defined the concept of addition of positive integer formally as the merger or addition of two positive integer into one positive integer. On the basis of this concept the students reinvention the properties in addition such as commutative and associative. The following suggestions need to be considered in instructional activities when reinventing the concept of addition of positive integer (1) learning about the concept of addition of positive integer can help the students to solve practical problems related to the concept of addition in daily life (2) learning about the concept of addition of positive round number must be under the students personal finding (3) the teacher needs to create appropriate conditions in which the instruction of mathematics can be delivered in comfortable dialogic and democratic situation (4) the teacher needs to consider the steps of instruction by using game method in such a way that it not only focuses on entertaining but more to direct the students towards the invention of new knowledge.
