This study presents an attempt to describe the English instruction at the fourth grade of SD Unggulan AL-YA LU Malang on the basis of current curriculum. Based on the research question the study is intended to describe the objective of teaching English at the school the teacher s qualification the instructional materials the teacher uses the kinds of instructional media the teacher uses the school facilities that support the learning and teaching program the instructional activities the teacher conducts the kinds of assessment the teacher employed the students opinions about their English class and the parents opinions on the implementation of teaching English at the fourth grade of the school. The study is qualitative in nature. The data were collected by conducting an observation of the teaching and learning activities observation of students response toward the teaching and learning activities questionnaire interview document study and field notes. The English teacher the students of the fourth grade (4A 4B and 4M) the principal and the parents were the subjects of the study. The collected data were analyzed by following the procedures data collection data presentation verification and conclusion drawing. However tabulation was also used to see the percentage of the students response in the questionnaires which would be the basis for describing the phenomenon. Based on the analysis the study reveals the following findings. Firstly the objective of the teaching of English at the fourth grade was that the students are able to understand and use the simple patterns of English through listening speaking reading and writing. Secondly the teacher had graduated from English Education department (S-1) and had followed some trainings and seminars on TEYL. Thirdly the teacher used two textbooks one students workbook teacher s handbooks English magazine for children and VCDs for the materials. Fourthly the English teacher used various kinds of media in presenting the materials. They were real objects photos pictures flash cards computer VCD English KIT and whiteboard in which pictures and whiteboard were used more frequently than the other media. Fifthly the school s facilities that support the learning and teaching of English were computer centre library and kitchen. Sixthly the teacher conducted the teaching and learning activities based on the current curriculum. The teacher presented the four language skills and the language components in pre-teaching whilst-teaching and post-teaching activities. Seventhly to assess the students learning progress the teacher conducted informal and formal evaluation. Eighthly the students liked their English class. Finally the parents agreed with the English program at school.
