i SUMMARY Winasih Wulan Wuryantari. 2018. Effect of Project-Based Learning Using E-Poster on EFL Students Speaking Ability across Personality Types. Thesis. English Language Teaching Graduate program. Universitas Negeri Malang. Advisors (I) Prof. Bambang Yudi Cahyono M. Pd M. A. Ph. D. (II) Dr. Johannes Ananto Prayogo M. Pd M. Ed Keywords e-poster EFL students personality types project-based learning speaking ability Preparing students to compete and face any challenges of the rapid changes of globalization is a responsibility of any form of education. Students success in today s learning lies on their ability to utilize technology as well as to communicate in English effectively within a variety of purposes. Project based learning as one of technology-based activities is believed to be an effective method to facilitate the use of technology and oral communication skill in EFL classroom. PBL exposes the characteristics of collaborative work product of project student-centered learning real world experience and learning by doing. This study attempts to investigate the effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) using e-poster on Indonesian EFL students speaking ability and to determine whether students personality types which were categorized by personality type questionnaire influence their speaking ability through PBL. Utilizing quasi-experimental research design 61 Indonesian secondary level students from two intact classes were involved and assigned randomly into experimental and control groups. Unlike the control group of students who were taught by using the conventional approach the students in the experimental group were taught through PBL using e-poster in the following stages starting with essential question designing the project plan arranging the schedule monitoring the progress of students and the project assessing the outcome and evaluating the experience. The quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test from both groups Analysis of the first result revealed that students who were taught through PBL using e-poster significantly outperformed those who were taught through conventional method since the p-value (.040) of comparison from both groups was smaller than .050 level of significance. Conversely the second result showed that students personality types (extrovert and introvert) did not affect their speaking achievement as the result of comparison with p-value 0.518 was smaller than significance level of .050. Some suggestions were offered for English teachers in reference of this study findings. English teachers should have a good preparation before applying PBL in classroom. Moreover they have to concern more on the possible factor influencing students speaking ability to understand and employ the effective learning strategies. Another suggestion is addressed to future researchers in which they should explore more on the integration of technology to assist students speaking activities as well as the factors that possibly increase their speaking achievement.
