Keywords reciprocal teaching strategy reading comprehension personality types This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy (RTS) compared to Translation and Reading Aloud Strategy (TRA) on students reading comprehension across personality types which are extroverts and introverts. RTS is a technique of teaching reading consisting of predicting clarifying questioning and summarizing. The study aims to examine whether there is any difference in the students reading comprehension taught by using RTS and those taught by using TRA in the students reading comprehension between extroverts taught by using RTS and those taught by using TRA in the students reading comprehension between introverts taught by using RTS and those taught by using TRA and interaction between RTS and Students personality types in reading comprehension. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and a post-test which took place in SMP Negeri 3 Ketapang. The sample was taken from the population of the eighth grade students in the academic year of 2016/2017. There were 353 students divided into 10 classes. The subjects were VIII-F consisting of 35 students as the control group and VIII-H consisting of 35 students as the experimental group. The students reading comprehension was measured by using a reading comprehension test. A questionnaire of personality was used to classify the students into extrovert and introvert. A parametric statistical test was used to test the hypothesis since the data from students post-test were normal and homogenous on the significant level of .05. The findings showed that the difference between RTS and TRA was significant with the p value of .000 the difference between extroverts in the experimental group and the control group was significant with the p value of .005 the difference between introverts in the experimental group and the control group was significant with the p value of .000. In contrast there is no interaction between the reading strategy and personality with the p value of .390 because there is probably weakness in the instrument used classify the students personlaity types. However RTS is still considered as an effective teaching strategy for students with extroversion and introversion in improving their reading skill. For future researchers they are highly recommended to use more valid instrument in classifying the personality types do the fair treatment in the use of media and take other aspects that may potentially improve the cognitive styles.
