Advisors: (1) Prof. Bambang Yudi Cahyono, Ph.D., (2) Francisca Maria Ivone, M.A, Ph.D Keywords :Quipper School, teaching writing, online learning The swift development of technology provides numerous innovations to augment English teaching and learning process. This study explored the effect of Quipper School as a Course Management System (CMS) of English learning on studentsÔÇÖ writing ability across types of essay. The types of essay studied were Comparison Contrast and Classification essays. The students were given exposure to an online learning using Quipper School as a CMS in the essay writing course. To achieve the aim of this study, a quasi experimental design was employed. The participants of this study were third semester English Department students of Universitas Negeri Malang who were having essay writing course. There were 25 students in the experimental group, and 24 students in the control group. Independent sample t-test was employed to analyze the result of the two posttests since the data fulfilled the statistical assumption. The findings of the study affirmed that the students who were taught writing essay using Quipper School achieved better score than those who were taught without Quipper School, the p-value was smaller than .05 (.000<.05). It revealed that there was significantly difference between Quipper School and the conventional media (printed book). The result of this study showed that there was no significant difference between studentsÔÇÖ writing score on Comparison contrast and Classification essays. This implies that Quipper School can be applied to teach writing on any types of essay. In conclusion, due to the effect of Quipper School, it can be a good option for teachers in teaching writing to accommodate studentsÔÇÖ favour in using technology and to maximize learning outside the classroom wall. Furthermore, it is suggested to develop this study by exploring the use of Quipper School for other types of essay, different language skills, and various levels of students.
