Studies in corrective feedback had been popular for the last decade. Factors related to corrective feedback such as students uptake corrective feedback preference background knowledge and proficiency had been investigated over the year and it revealed various results. Since more studies in different learning contexts might lead to different results of study it was crucial to conduct further study for this topic. This present study aimed to answer the following research problems (1) Is there any difference on pharmacy students pre-test and post-test speaking performance (2) Which corrective feedback results in the highest frequency of uptake (3) Which uptake results in the highest frequency of repair (4) Which uptake is produced the most by high performers and low performers and how often do they perform the uptake (5) Which repair is produced the most by high performers and low performers and how often do they perform the uptake A one group pretest-posttest design was applied in collecting and presenting the data. The samples were a lecturer and 27 EFL students in an ESP (English for Specific Purposes) class in the State Islamic University of Malang East Java. Instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire interview observation recording and assessment. The result of this study showed an increase of mean scores from students pre-test to post-test which lead to the conclusion that the corrective feedback had benefitted the students during their learning process. The finding and discussion also showed that although the uptake was considered high with more than 50% corrective feedback followed by uptake only for about half of uptake was in the form of repair. Further high and low performer students showed different tendency of uptake and repair. Even though repair might indicate students successful attempt in correction by reformulating their utterance repair was not the only indicator for a successful improvement on students speaking performance. Additionally there were other factors including preference of correction and the classroom environment that also affected students uptake. In sum corrective feedback was again proven to be successful in helping EFL students to improve their speaking. However there were several factors related to corrective feedback that could be used to explain how the studennts responded to the correction. Finally it is expected that the result of this study could inform teachers lecturers and education practitioners about the significance of corrective feedback in improving EFL students speaking performance. ABSTRAK Rohmah D. W. M. 2017. Oral Corrective Feedback Students Uptake and Their Speaking Performance. Master s Thesis English Department Graduate Program State University of Malang. Advisors (1) Dr. Sri Rachmajanti Dip. TESL M.Pd. (2) Dr. Emalia Iragiliati M.Pd. Keywords Corrective feedback respon siswa terhadap koreksi kemampuan berbicara.
