The availability of appropriate listening materials turns out to be the problem of MA Almaarif Singosari particularly the eleventh year students. This study aims at answering the problem by developing listening materials for the eleventh year students of MA Almaarif Singosari based on the 2006 Standard of Contents. The procedures of the study included needs survey developing materials validation and final product. The validation covers experts and teacher s moderation revision try-out of the materials revision and try-out two. The instruments utilized in needs survey were questionnaires an interview guide and field notes. The data obtained from needs survey indicated that the students require listening materials which are suitable with their level and the curriculum. The results of the needs survey were used as the basis for developing the listening materials. The proposed materials were then given to the experts and the English teacher to be judged and evaluated. A judgment form was used to gain the experts and teacher s judgment on the draft of the materials. The experts and the teachers judged them on the basis of language content length speed of delivery clarity of the recording and the attractiveness of the materials. The data from the experts and teachers were analyzed qualitatively. The try out was carried out by the English teacher to know the product s language difficulty appropriateness of the contents length speed of delivery quality of the recording and attractiveness of the materials plus practicality effectiveness and level of difficulty of the materials. The subjects were the eleventh year students. Fifteen students were selected from XI Science 1 as the sample by stratified random sampling. The class was chosen using simple random sampling by lottery. The data from the teacher and observation related to the practicality and effectiveness were presented quantitatively and descriptively. The data from the students related to language difficulty appropriateness of the contents length speed of delivery clarity of the recording and attractiveness of the materials plus level of difficulty of the materials were analyzed quantitatively using percentage. The results of the first try out showed that only unit 8 needed revising in terms of tasks. The revision was done by replacing the text in task A with the shorter text at moderate level of difficulty. In task B the revision was done by reducing the number of the deleted words in completion task. Then the revised unit was tried out. The result of the second try out indicated that the revised unit was appropriate for the students. Therefore the materials are suitable for the eleventh year students of MA Almaarif Singosari. The final product is in the form of Audio CD a teacher s book and a students book. The CD contains audio recorded materials. The teacher s book contains the direction of how to teach the materials the stages in teaching listening the tape scripts and the answer key. The students book covers the tasks which have to be done by the students. Other researchers who plan to have a similar study are suggested to develop listening materials for the other grades. English teachers who are going to use this product are suggested to follow the activities in the guide book and vary the pre- and post-listening activities.
