Key words implementing reading comprehension Learning Together strategy. Reading is an important part of language skills which must be taught in classes of Senior High Schools. In reading activities the students are expected to be able to comprehend reading passages. In teaching reading at the tenth graders of MA Raudlatut Thalabah the English teachers faced problems related to this skill. First the interaction between students was low. Second the reading activities were dominated by small minority of high achievers. Third students motivation was low. Meanwhile based on the finding of the preliminary study it was indicated that the teaching of reading at MA Raudlatut Thalabah is not satisfactory. Therefore this research was designed to improve the students reading comprehension through the use of Learning Together Strategy. The objective of the study was to describe how Learning Together Strategy improved the reading comprehension ability of the tenth graders of MA Raudlatut Thalabah Kediri. Meanwhile this study was focused on descriptive text as the text type which must be taught to the tenth graders of Madrasah Aliyah. The design of the study was Collaborative Classroom Action Research. In this design the researcher and the collaborative teacher worked together in preparing a suitable procedure of Learning Together Strategy designing the lesson plan determining of the criteria of success implementing the action observing and doing reflections. The subjects of this research were 46 tenth graders of MA Raudlatut Thalabah Kediri East Java in the academic year 2008/2009. This research was conducted in 2 cycles each of which consisted of two meetings. The data of the research were obtained from (1) observation sheet which was used to obtain information about teacher s and the students activities and performance during the implementation of Learning Together Strategy (2) field notes which were used to note the data and (3) test which was used to identify whether the students made progress or improved the reading comprehension ability or not. The result of the research showed that the implementation of Learning Together Strategy in the teaching and learning of reading comprehension can successfully improve the students comprehension skill. There were 4 steps in implementing the Learning Together Strategy namely (1) Assigning the students to group by dividing students into group. Each group has a mixed of high medium and low achievers and both male and female students in each group. Then giving the roles for the group members such as leader reader writer checker encourager and helper (2) Activating the students background knowledge. The teacher showed the pictures and asking the students to mention words that might be used in the text (3) Encouraging the students to comprehend the text. The teacher asked the students to read the text silently gave the model on how to read the text asked the students to discus the content of the text and encouraged the students to help each other. (4) Reviewing the reading activity. The teacher checked the students answers and making conclusion of the topic and gave reward for the best group. Based on the result of the research it was indicated that this strategy has strength particularly it can improve the reading comprehension of the students and in increasing the students involvement in teaching and learning of reading activities. The research findings indicated that the students were active during the reading activities and the students reading comprehension ability improves after the implementation of the action. The improvement was shown by the increase of the percentage of the students achievement in reading comprehension ability. Cycle 1 showed that the number of students who got the score of greater or equal to 65. There were 25 students out of 46 students or 54.35% gained the score of greater or equal to 65. Meanwhile Cycle 2 the students who gained the score of greater or equal to 65 were 37 out of 46 students or 80.43%. It fulfilled the criterion of success in term of the score improvement. Whereas the finding indicated that Learning Together Strategy was successful to empower students participation and motivation to be actively involved in the instructional process. The students were active in the class in terms of sharing ideas reading answering the questions making groups using Learning Together Strategy. Based on the findings of the study it is suggested that the English teachers the school and for the future researchers apply or implement Learning Together Strategy in teaching reading classes since the strategy can improve the students reading comprehension ability. For English teachers are recommended also to employ Learning Together Strategy in order to be able to teach reading comprehension effectively. English teachers should organize the groups by considering the students achievement levels. Meanwhile they should implement the strategy as alternatives strategies in English instruction to make the students are interested and motivated in attending the teaching learning activities. For the school this strategy is suggested to provide special lesson time for students to practice the reading comprehension which can be done for their intra curricular activities or extra curricular activities. For the future researchers this strategy was as like small group setting so that they should well known the principal of Learning Together Strategy.
