There are four major problems related to the writing instruction at the English Education Study Program of Palangka Raya University Central Kalimantan. The problems are related to the limited sources of printed materials the activity which is mostly teacher-centered the readers of students writings and the feedbacks towards students writings. These four problems then affect students to write in English especially when dealing with academic essays. Therefore this study tries to solve the problems in writing instruction. The utilization of blogs was performed to help students improve their writing skills in developing example essays. Blog is used as the strategy in this study because it is a potential source for language learning student fit authentic for learning and practical to apply. This study was performed to students of Writing 3 at the English Education Study Program of Palangka Raya University. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were 2 cycles implemented during this study. In the first cycle the students writing improvement did not show significant progress. There were only 3 students who could score 2 or 3 points for all sub-criteria in the scoring rubric. Thus it did not meet the criteria of success. The failure of the strategy in improving students writing skills in Cycle 1 lies in the lack of time the difficulties in expressing ideas and the hesitancy in using the appropriate vocabulary and correct English grammar. After the plan was revised on the basis of the findings during the implementation of Cycle 1 students showed great improvements in developing example essays. There were 16 students who could score 2 or 3 points for all sub-criteria in the scoring rubric. This number is regarded as 80% from the total number of students meaning that the criteria of success had been achieved. Based on the findings from both cycles the researcher drew a conclusion for the effective implementation of blogging strategy. First teachers and students should sign up on the blogs to participate in blogging activities. Second students should utilize search engine to aid them in finding websites or blogs regarding to the topics of their writings. Third students should also check the English grammar and English dictionary websites during the writing process to assure the sentence structure and diction. Fourth teachers and students should give comments corrections and suggestions to students blogs. The results of this study is hoped to inspire English teachers in taking advantage of using technology in classroom contexts students to practice language skills through internet applications and other researchers to conduct research in the same field aiming at improving students skills not only in writing but also in listening and reading.
