ABSTRACT Romelah. 2016. Increasing the Quality of Short StoryWriting Learning Containing Character Values with Sinectic Model to the IX Grade Students of SMP Negeri 5 Pagentan Banjarnegara. Thesis. Bahasa Indonesia Study Program Post Graduate of Universitas Negeri Malang. Advisors (1) Prof. Dr. Wahyudi Siswanto M.Pd. (2) Dr. Nurchasanah M.Pd. Keywords the Learning of Quality Short Story Writing Character Values Sinectic Model Based on the preliminary study the quality of process and result oh short story writing learning containing character values the IXB grade students of SMPN 5 Pagentan including at the low category. This research was conducted to implement the sinectic model in increasing the quality of short story writing learning containing character values in IXB grade of SMPN 5 Pagentan. The aim of this research are 1) increasing increasing the quality of short story writing learning containing character values with sinectic model and 2) increasing the quality of the result of short story writing learning containing character. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. This research was conducted in two cycles involving Planning Acting Observing and Reflecting.The researcher as the key instrument facilitated with interview guidance observation checklist questionnaire and documentation.The subject of this research was the IXB grade students of SMPN 5 Pagentan Banjarnegara Regency Central Java which consisted of 28 students. The score of the Minimum Passing Grade (KKM) determined by the school were the score of process categorizing good and the score of result of the short story writing test reached 70. The indicator of success of this research are 1) if the percentage of classical passing grade reach 8805 75%. The data of this research were the data of learning process in the form of verbal data which were obtained during learning activities and data of result of learning in the form of score which were obtained through short story containing character values writing test after the learning activities. Analysis data through three steps involving 1) data reduction 2) data presentation and 3) make conclusions. The results of the research showed that the implementation of sinectic in short story writing learning containing character values could increase the quality of short story writing learning containing character values to the IXB grade of SMPN 5 Pagentan. The learning activity by implementing sinectic model consists of four steps including direct analogy step personal analogy step full conflict analogy step and editing and revising step. Based on those activities after being analyzed qualitatively the students activity in learning process in cycle I showed that the students did not pay attention on the learning seldom be active in the learning activity seldom to respond to the assignment given by the teacher and also students are less creative in the learning proses and in cyclus II the students often paid attention on the learning be more active often response the assignment given by teacher and seldom express creative idea in the learning process. The percentage of the successful of the students learnung process in cycle 1 was 68.53% includung at the fair category and in cycle II the percentage of the successful of the students learning process reached 68.53% including at the fair category and on the cycl II the percentage of the successful of the students learning process reached 86.38% including at the good category. Together with the increasing of the quality of learning process the quality of learning result increased as well. After those had been analyzed descriptive statistically the students short story containing character values writing ability in cycle I the mean score reached 69.86 which was at the fair score category with the percentage of classical passing grade 67.86% and in cycle II the mean score had increased their mean score was 79 which was at the good category with the percentage of classical passing grade 92.86%. The implementation of short story containing character values writing learning with sinectic model proved that it could increase the quality of proscess and and results of short story containing character values writing learning well. Therefore it is suggested to Bahasa Indonesia teachers at SMPN 5 Pagentan to use sinectic model as the alternative learning model in writing shots story.
