Social science (IPS) subject matter functions to develop national attitude and social attitude and knowledge about Indonesian society life based on past and present and future. Education purpose of social science in elementary school (SD) according to some education experts has not been reached as expected. This is showed by Dimyati (2002) and Joni (1996). Dimyati (2002) suggested that quality of executing teaching and learning process that encourage the child actively in learning basic skill such as reading writing calculating and observing in elementary school is still far from the curriculum expectation. According to Joni (1996) the child s capability to commune with abstract matters in nature requested to digest ideas in various academic subject matters that is generally formed in the age when they sit in last grade of elementary school and develop subsequently when they in junior high school. Relating with findings above the researcher is interested to use social science integrated learning in social science subject matter of V grade is that to increase student s creativity and autonomy to develop capability rational and social attitudes and capability of developing Indonesian community. Elementary school student that is subject in this research is five grade students that are generally 11 years in age. Piaget distinguishes four cognitive student s development period of this age involving (1) sensor motor period (2) preoperational period (3) period of concrete operations and (4) period of formal operation (Slavin 2000). Social science integrated learning can increase student s creativity and can increase student s autonomy of grade V of elementary school. This potential is based on consideration social science integrated learning that is more focused on the student (Loepp 2005) giving the opportunity for involvement of various student s potential in learning process and the matter will make the learning more useful. The learning model has surplus because of systematical approach method. Integrated learning model is sufficiently giving an opportunity in involving various student experiences because the themes raised is chosen from the matters that the student explain that may depart from previous experience and based on the requirement the student feels (Joni 1996). According to Kovalik and Mc Geehan (1999) the theme chosen in integrated learning provide basic structure to important concepts that helps the student in looking at pattern and make relationships between different facts and ideas. This research has a purpose to (1) increase student s creativity and autonomy of grade V student in elementary school of Malang Municipal and (2) improvement of social science integrated learning in increasing student s creativity and autonomy. This research uses qualitative approach that has classroom action research design with J. Elliot model (1991 72) that has a purpose of improving teaching and learning process. The treatment of instructional occurs during 7 weeks performed in every week (2 x 35 70 minutes). Whereas establishment of 7 weeks means that 7 x 70 minutes 490 minutes. So total time is 490 minutes. Data collection is done by using learning result test student creativity test through integrated learning model with figural media (picture) and verbal with TTCT (Torrance Test of Creativity Thinking) test and student s autonomy test through student capability. Data analysis uses t-test by using facility of PSS 12 program. This research produces findings as follow (1) integrated learning of model social science subject matter with integrated learning pattern with figural (picture) media and verbal that uses approach among study fields can increase grade V student creativity of elementary school (2) integrated learning if social science subject matter by using approach among study fields can increase grade V student s autonomy in elementary school. Based on these findings it is proposed some suggestions as follow (1) integrated learning of social science subject matter can increase grade V student s creativity and autonomy can give contribution for developing integrated learning theory of social science subject matter in elementary school (2) for teacher it is as input in striving to increase teaching and learning process of social science subject matter in the class and (3) for students that have difficulty in integrated learning of social science subject matter they can be directed so that capability of their capability and autonomy increase and give provision of basic capability to live autonomously.
