ABSTRAK Norfarida Siti. 2017. The Application of discovery learning model to increase students geography skill competency in learning geography class XI of SMAN 10 Malang. Thesis Majoring in geography Faculty of Social Science State University of Malang. Preceptor (1) Dr. Budi Handoyo M.Si (2) Drs. Hendri Purwito M.Si Key word discovery learning geography skill The implementation of learning in the high school level is not only fixated in the strengthening of knowledge alone but also provided with strengthening attitudes and strengthening skills of each student. Skills needed to support students to be more productive creative innovative in the face of problems that often happening right now. Of the many subjects in high school geography becomes one of the subject that equip student with skill. This skills often known as geography skills. A teacher should choose and use strategies approaches models and techneques that engage students actively in learning both mentally physically and socially. In learning geography students are directed to observe makes try and able to answer the question why and how. This principle of active learning is expected to foster the aims of student s geography skills. This study aims to determine the improvement of the discovery learning model to the students geography skills designed using classroom ation research or abbreviated with PTK. This study is devided into two cycles consisting of planning axecution observation and reflexes. Selection of this action because of the problems that exist in class XI social sciences K-5 state high school 10 of Malang namely the low competence of students to geography skills. Measurement of students geography skilss using a test consisting of four essay question referring to the skilss indicator. The results of the study indicate that there is an improvement in the discovery learning model to the student geography skills competence. The result can be seen in the graph of cycle I and cycle II which shows there is an increase in the average value of students conducted during four meetings. The conclusion that can be taken from this research is that there is an improvement of discovery learning model to students geography skills class XI social sciences state high school 10 of Malang
