Kata Kunci Penerapan Group Investigation Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan dikelas XI IPS 4 SMA Laboratorium UM pada mata pelajaran Geografi. Sebagian kegiatan pembelajaran di kelas tersebut masih didominasi oleh guru siswa hanya mendengarkan dan mencatat. Selama proses pembelajaran aktivitas siswa rata-rata sangat pasif hanya ada sekitar 20% siswa saja yang aktif menjawab maupun mengemukakan pendapatnya. Selain itu diketahui bahwa penggunaan metode pembelajaran yang dilakukan oleh guru hanya sebatas penyampaian konsep dan diskusi kelompok biasa sehingga siswa tidak dapat menganalisa suatu fenomena atau permasalahan nyata yang ada di sekitar mereka. Dapat diketahui dari nilai rata-rata ulangan harian siswa dengan tingkat kesulitan soal (C4) yakni sebesar 70 8 pada saat guru memberikan soal ulangan harian dengan tingkat kesulitan (C4) berpikir kritis siswa tidak dapat menjawab pertanyaan dengan baik jawaban siswa cenderung singkat dan mengarah dengan tingkatan berpikir rendah (C3). Solusi untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut diperlukan penerapan model pembelajaran yang mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Dari beberapa model pembelajaran. Model pembelajaran Group Investigation (GI) merupakan suatu alternatif yang tepat untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang ada. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari tahap perencanaan pelaksanaan observasi dan refleksi. Penelitian ini terdiri dari II siklus masing-masing siklus terdapat 2 pertemuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas XI IPS 4 SMA Laboratorium UM dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 31 orang yang terdiri dari 17 siswa laki-laki dan 14 siswa perempuan. Pokok bahasan dalam penelitian ini yaitu Kearifan dalam Pemanfaatan Sumber Daya Alam. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan April-Mei 2017. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini adalah kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas XI IPS 4 SMA Laboratorium UM pada materi Kearifan dalam Pemanfaatan Sumber Daya Alam. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata tes kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dari siklus I ke siklus II yang mengalami peningkatan sebesar 11 1% dengan nilai rata-rata 72 pada siklus I menjadi 80 pada siklus II. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut disarankan dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran Group Investigation (GI) untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa agar dapat dijadikan landasan untuk melakukan penelitian selanjutnya pada materi lokasi dan waktu yang berbeda. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of planning implementation observation and reflection. This study consists of two cycles each cycle there are 2 meetings. This research was conducted in class XI IPS 4 SMA Laboratorium UM with 31 students consisting of 17 male students and 14 female students. The subject of this research is Wisdom in Natural Resources Utilization. The study was conducted in April-May 2017. The results obtained in this study is the critical thinking ability of students of class XI IPS 4 SMA Laboratorium UM on materials Wisdom in Natural Resources Utilization. This can be seen from the average of average ability level in cycle I to cycle II which experienced an increase of 11.1% with average 72 in cycle I to 80 in cycle II. Based on the results of this research it is suggested to apply Group Investigation (GI) learning model to improve critical thinking ability so that it can be used as base for doing further research on different material location and time.
