Suwasono M.T. Keywords learning outcome metacognitive IMPROVE Think Pair Square web design programming. The learning component covers an aim material student teacher method situation and evaluation which are related each other. The thing needed to be considered in choosing the method is the suitability of the method to the material characteristic and the subject. Adding the object on a web page has characteristics on the steps in doing a task that is identifying problems writing a script and testing an html document. Alternative methods which can be applied in adding the object on a web page are IMPROVE and TPS method. Metacognitive strategy was applied to those both methods to know students metacognitive ability. This study aimed to test the learning outcome and students metacognitive difference between the students taught using IMPROVE method and TPS in Web Design Programming subject especially the competence of adding objects on the web page. This research used quasy experiment design in form of pretest-posttest control group. The population of the research was the students of X TKJ at SMKN 2 Malang. Sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling because of the sample decision based on a certain consideration. The instrument used in this research included the instrument of treatment and measurement. The technique of the data analysis used the testing of norm homogeneity similarity of the first two means and hypothesis (t-test). The result of this study showed that there were significant differences found on the students cognitive learning outcomes resulted between IMPROVE and TPS method. The cognitive learning outcome resulted from IMPROVE method was higher since the students got chance to elaborate their difficulty decrease the difficulty and correct the task so that the students understanding of the concept was better and so was their scores. However there was no difference of the affective learning outcome between both of the methods. That was because both of them were same in terms of giving problems so that the students were motivated to participate and be active in the learning activity. The result of metacognitive knowledge and regulation between both of the methods was not significantly different. That was because the students were able to apply the metacognitive strategy well in terms of their awareness planning monitoring and reflecting in learning.
