ABSTRACT Pramusinta Yovi. 2017. Mortar Press Strength Study Of River Sand Mix Pumice Powder and Portland Type II Cement Against Sea Water Effect. Thesis Department of Civil Engineering Faculty of Engineering Malang State University. Advisor (I) Drs. Sonny Wedhanto M.T (II) Ir. Edi Santoso M.T. Keywords sea water pumice mortar Several previous studies have concluded that adding pumice stone on mortar mixes can increase mortar resistance to sea water. This study aims to determine the chemical composition of pumice and river sand and the effect of giving pumice on water absorption. In addition this study also evaluate the compressive strength of mortar given additional pumice after being exposed to the influence of sea water the chemical composition of the mortar which added pumice if exposed to the influence of sea water and bonds of mortar molecules which added extra pumice after exposure to sea water Sample of mortar cube size 5 5 5 cm3 mixed composition 1 cement PPC 3 sand based on weight ratio with water to cement ratio 0 485. Using two types of mortar which is added with a pumice of 5 10 and 15% by weight of sand and mortar without being given pumice as a control group. Each treatment used 20 specimens treatment by soaking the sample into the sea water for 28 45 and 60 days then let it dry perfectly natural by air. Testing of compressive strength using Hydraulic Cement Compressor Strength Packing capacity of 100 kN with 0.1 kN accuracy. The research results (1) Pumice using relatively high SiO2 content reaching 44.5% (2) The sand used contains (Si) of 24.6% (3) The mortar absorption value with an additional average pumice increased by 7.06% of normal mortar (without additional pumice). (4) Mortar compressive strength that occurs in mortar given a 5% pumice mixture (MP1) after soaking in sea water for 45 days reaching 31.26 MPa the lowest compressive strength is the mortar given 15% pumice mixture (MP3) after soaking for 28 days using sea water the compressive strength is 10.79 MPa (5) The longer the mortar is soaked in seawater causing the smaller Ca element which press the compressive strength of the mortar decreases (6) The longer it is immersed in the sea water the mortar structure will experience the tension in which the mortar is broken by itself.
