Abstract

This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach which aims to describe the errors and causes of extroverted and introverted students' errors in solving mathematical story problems on linear program material based on the Newman method. The subjects in this study were 4 students selected from 32 students of class XI IPA 2 SMA Brawijaya Smart School. The selection of research subjects is based on the results of filling out personality questionnaires and test questions on linear program material. The data used in this study are based on personality questionnaires and student answers to questions that refer to newman error indicators, and interviews. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that extroverted or introverted students made four types of errors according to the newman method. Errors made include errors in understanding, transformation errors, process skills errors, and errors in writing the final answer. The causes of errors made by extroverted students are rushing in calculating, lack of accuracy in understanding what is asked in the problem, the habit of using their own methods that are not in accordance with mathematical rules, and incomplete in writing x and y memorization. The causes of errors made by introverted subjects are that the teacher does not immediately explain the mistakes made by students, rushing to do the problem, the habit of using their own methods that are not in accordance with the rules of mathematics, the habit of writing information briefly that is wrong, and lack of thoroughness in understanding what is asked in the problem.
