Grammarly as one of the most popular AI tools currently is considered to be able to help students write texts especially in English. In the absence of recent research on the topic of using Grammarly in creative writing context the current study aims to explore EFL students rsquo perception and experiences in utilizing Grammarly in creative writing. The participants of this study were English Department students of Universitas Negeri Malang who had taken the Creative Writing course. A mixed-method study was conducted employing an explanatory design to answer the formulated research questions. The quantitative data were collected through online questionnaires and were analyzed by using Microsoft Excel. On the other hand the qualitative data were obtained from the interview and document analysis and were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The result of this study showed that most students had positive perceptions and experiences in using Grammarly in creative writing especially when they were using grammar punctuation and spelling check. The benefits of using Grammarly that the students gained were providing more efficient vocabulary choices and maintaining consistency in the use of tenses. On the other hand the challenges they encountered during the utilization of Grammarly such as preferences for vocabulary that were too formal and Grammarly which required a stable internet connection. The result may be used as reference for students and English lecturers or teachers to integrate Grammarly in creative writing context. Furthermore the future researchers are suggested to conduct quasi experimental research employing Grammarly in creative writing class.
