Motivation either internal or external is important for engaging students in reading activities. This study aimed to investigate the influence of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students external motivation to read English stories and their reading habits. The study employed quantitative research within a survey design. For the instrument the study used a questionnaire consisting of 20 statements based on the Likert scale and was distributed to 85 EFL students in three classes. The study found that there are four external motivational factors that influence EFL students reading habits. Specifically the goal factors were the most influential among the four external motivation factors. The goal factors included reading English stories to improve language proficiency obtaining better grades fulfilling academic requirements and preparing for future careers. The research suggested that external factors highly influence EFL students when developing their reading habits.
