Abstract

This research explores EFL University students rsquo perceptions of the use of TED Talks YouTube Resources to improve their vocabulary skills by exploring their experience and perceptions of using TED Talks in learning English vocabulary inside and outside the classroom. The researcher used non-experimental research by using two instruments namely a closed-ended questionnaire with 32 items for 30 ELT students as participants and 3 students who had a high score as participants for In-Depth Interview with 15 questions items. The quantitative descriptive methods were used in this study by using SPSS programs for calculating the statistical data and Google Forms in the form of percentages for each item of the questionnaire instrument to find the average scores. Based on the statistical data most of the students showed positive experiences and perceptions in 95%. The results can be concluded that student rsquo s academic experience by providing direct responses to the use of TED Talks YouTube Resources inside and outside the classroom revealed that their exciting experience influenced their perception of learning outcomes such as their performances motivation behavior the way they understand English lesson and help their vocabulary skill growth in practical knowledge and understanding. TED Talks content is very suitable as learning media to improve EFL students rsquo vocabulary skills because ELT students admitted that the important features namely subtitles play a big role in helping them improve their vocabulary skills. It contains authentic English material with a short duration so it makes students enjoy further the TED Talks material by native English speakers who are experts in their field so they encourage ELT students to be good public speakers.
