Teaching vocabulary is considered a challenge for English teachers in Indonesia as it is one of the crucial language aspects. Many 11th grade students at a public high school in Batu struggle to improve their vocabulary to the suggested vocabulary size of 2500-3250 words at the B1 level of CEFR. The teacher has problems in choosing a suitable strategy to teach vocabulary. Therefore this research aims to implement the use of online word games as supplementary materials outside the classroom. Classroom Action Research which consisted of four steps planning acting observing and reflecting was used in this research. The subject of this study was the class XI-1 at one of the public high schools in Batu. This research was conducted in one cycle since both criteria of success were achieved. The results of this study show that 89% of the students were able to answer 80% of the questions of two sections in the vocabulary test correctly. Another result of the vocabulary test was that 84% of the students reached the medium level for their average n-gain scores. In conclusion the use of online word games as supplementary materials was effective in improving the students rsquo vocabulary mastery.
