Abstract

SUMMARY Nurhotimah Umdah. 2021. Students rsquo and Lecturers rsquo Perception on the Implementation of Intensive English Program (IEP) For Communication . Master rsquo s Thesis Graduate Program in English Language Teaching. State University of Malang. Thesis Advisors (1) Dr. Johannes Ananto Prayogo M.Pd M.Ed. (2) Dr. Niamika El Khoiri S.Pd M.A. Keywords Classroom Evaluation Teaching and Learning Process Intensive English Program for Communication. In this globalization era People are expected to be skillful in English to have jobs. Thus it is not strange if most of schools and universities provide English Program to aid the students have English skills. State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang or UIN Malang is also one of the universities that provides learning English as obligatory program. Intensive English Program (IEP) for Communication is the name of the program that made for non-English students. This program has purpose to equip the students with the conversational English knowledge and skills. However when the researcher conducted the observation and interview with the students who had finished IEP for Communication class there are issues begin to surface. Ineffective time allocation and lack of using handbook are the problems that found from this program. From those issues conducting classroom evaluation is needed to do. The current research employed descriptive qualitative research design to investigate the students rsquo and lecturers rsquo perception towards the components in evaluating program. 204 students involved as the respondents in this research. They are representative students from all of majors in UIN Malang. They selected the statement that related to program evaluation in questionnaire. In addition three lecturers also are involved to support the students rsquo opinion through questions in interview that related to program evaluation. Handbook teaching and learning process and learning evaluation are three components in program evaluation (Jabbarifar 2016). For each component the researcher used different expert. In evaluating handbook used the theory by Cunningsworth (1995) the research of Scott (2003) in evaluate teaching and learning process and Kerlinger (1986) cited in Cavanagh R. Waldrip B. Romanoski J. Dorman J. amp Fisher D. (2005) mentioned the elements in the learning evaluation. The research found that both of the students and lecturers are agree that the handbook has good criteria handbook several criteria have facilitated in teaching and learning process and the criteria of good and suitable learning evaluation have been fulfilled. However the distributing the handbook has not completed yet because the students from several majors did not have the handbook in online class. In addition the lack of the lecturers rsquo optimistic motivated the students in having higher score because they are non-English students.
