Professional development (PD) is not just a short involvement but a long process starting from teacher training at university and going on throuhout the working life of the individuals. This study assessed perceptions and experiences of upper secondary school EFL teachers in Kabupaten Bima. The general research problem of this study is ldquo How is the professional development of senior high school English teachers in Kabupaten Bima rdquo . This general question is divided into three specific questions. Those are as follows How do secondary EFL teachers define professional development What professional development activities have secondary school EFL teachers done and how do they perceive the important of it for their careers A case study was used in this study. A semi structure interview was used to gather the data from 5 teachers from different schools. The research participants of this study were senior and junior high school English teachers in Kabupaten Bima. The research participants also varied in terms or teaching experience marriage status and age. In choosing the participant first of all the researcher conducted preliminary study to find the teachers who want to participate in this study. In this step the researcher comes to the research site and meets with the candidates of the research participants of this study. The total number of research candidate were 5 teachers chosen from different senior and junior high schools in the area of Kabupaten Bima. The findings revealed that teachers were aware of the significance and necessity of PD and saw it as a process which help them to be more knowledgeable and experienced teachers. They also pointed out that involving in such studies could help them professionaly. It can be concluded that the professional development of senior high school English teachers in Kabupaten Bima is fairly implemented. However there a lot of other definitions and types of professional development opportunities that the participants did not discuss during the interview. Indeed professional development goes beyond more than what they have mentioned. In the data the teachers did not seek professional development activities such as reflective teaching consistently arrange teaching journal peer observation with the senior teaching portfolios peer coaching team teaching and action research.
