Writing is one of productive skills that involves communication of thoughts through words and reprocessing the information obtained to be delivered to the reader. In the preliminary study at SMKN 2 Magetan East Java it was found that the students met difficulties in writing narrative text which resulted in a low quality of their writing ability. Therefore the current study aimed to develop their writing ability in narrative text using mind mapping strategy. This research was Classroom Action Research. The subjects were 34 students of the tenth grade of Tehnik Komputer dan Jaringan (X TKJ C) of SMKN 2 Magetan covering 25 male and 9 female students academic year of 2018/2019. The instruments used to collect the data were a writing test and field notes. The research findings showed that the strategy has improved their writing ability. Therefore I recommended that mind mapping strategy could be implemented as a technique in developing students rsquo writing skill and to be considered as an optional source for further research regarding mind mapping strategy.
