Abstract

The main impairment in children with autism are social communication and behavior. Many of them use behavior as a form of communication to express needs because that is the only way of communication they have. Communication enhancement therapy in children with autism have not received full attention because in general people tend to do speech therapy and increasing vocabulary as the only form of communication. This study aims to determine the initial conditions of expressive communication appropriate strategies to increase expressive communication and positive behavior and whether there is an effect of PECS on increasing expressive communication and positive behavior in children with ASD. The results showed that there was an increase in expressive communication and in positive behavior using PECS in children with ASD. This increase reached a high and stable value in the 4th time series for each training material for the JSH subject. Meanwhile subjects -2 VL on materials -1 and 2 experienced an increase and stabilized in the 4th time series. While material 3 and positive behavior have increased until they reach a maximum score of 100% at the 4th time series and then stabilized until the 5th time series.
