Abstract

This research uses a Qualitative Case Study methodology to study students experiences and challenges on using WEBTOON for reading comprehension practice. Conducted at the English Department of Universitas Negeri Malang the study focuses on five students from the 2019 cohort who participated in an Extensive Reading class specifically from Offering A where a higher preference for WEBTOON was observed. Data collection involved interviews and the analysis used CALL theory by Chapelle and qualitative analysis by Cresswell. The findings reveal a positive responses among students who appreciate WEBTOON for its enjoyable pressure-free learning environment and practical accessibility. Students found benefits such as exposure to new vocabulary increased motivation for reading and improved reading comprehension skills and creative thinking. Moreover respondents found WEBTOON helpful for character analysis and understanding story situations through visual elements. Despite these advantages challenges included internet connectivity issues also suggestions for the integration of supporting media to enhance the overall language learning experience. In conclusion while WEBTOON offers distinct advantages it may require a diverse range of resources and media.
