Abstract

Spotify is an application that can be used as a learning medium for listening lessons. This study used a quantitative approach and survey design. Using the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) this survey study aimed to find out students perceptions of using the Spotify application to improve their listening skills. The participants of this study were 80 students aged between 21-22 years old from cohort 2021 of the English Department. The instrument used was a questionnaire distributed through Google Form which consists of eight close-ended questions and one open-ended question. The responses from close-ended questions were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis and an open-ended question was analyzed using data analysis from Miles et al. The results showed that 83.8% of students had positive perceptions of the Spotify application in terms of usefulness and ease of use. The students think Spotify s diverse content improves their listening skills and they agreed that Spotify is easy to access and the UI (User Interface)/UX (User Experience) is user-friendly. However there were some drawbacks in students perceptions of Spotify 16.2% of students felt that they did not feel any improvement after using the Spotify application. The findings can guide the incorporation of Spotify to optimize language learning experiences ultimately benefiting students rsquo learning development.
