This research aims to examine what external factors on the students rsquo difficulties in learning listening comprehension at ICBS Al-Muflihun Malang. The approach in this research is a quantitative survey design. It is a mini-survey since the population were only 36 students. The population consisted of 20 male and 16 female students at Islamic Character Boarding School Al-Muflihun Malang that now in 12th grade. They were in the second semester and had learned listening comprehension. The researcher used a closed-ended questionnaire consisting of 23 statements from four aspects as an instrument to collect the data. The gathered data was organized and analyzed using descriptive and statistical methods primarily focusing on percentage calculations. The findings of the research showed the external factors related to the discussion topic of the listening text account for 25 5%. The external factors related to the speaker awareness of audience needs account for 22 8%. The clarity and speaker effectiveness account for 23 2%. The external factors related to the context account for 28 5%. In conclusion external factors did the students encounter the most in listening comprehension at ICBS Al-Muflihun Malang are related to the context of listening material. This research also indicated some suggestions for teachers to overcome the difficulties faced by the students.
