Abstract

The objective of this research is to discover the effect of implementing picture series media on the writing performance of the tenth graders of SMA Negeri 10 Malang Jawa Timur specifically in writing recount texts. Picture series is a visual media which has the high probability of succession in helping the tenth graders during the writing learning process. In the process the researcher utilized quasi-experimental research design with a quantitative approach. The subjects of this research were 72 students of tenth grade at the second semester of academic year 2022/2023. They were divided into 2 groups experimental group and control group with 36 students in each group. The researcher deployed writing tests and asked them to fill in an opinion questionnaire. This research discovered that there is improvement in the students rsquo writing performance in writing recount text after the implementation of picture series media. The mean of the experimental class is increased after the implementation of picture series as media from 78 to 81. Moreover the opinion questionnaire showed that students positively agree towards the implementation of picture series media. The research recommended that teachers employ picture series as media while teaching writing especially teaching to write recount text.
