Abstract

The current study aimed to investigate students rsquo experiences with the use of the ReadTheory platform at the senior high school level. The case study design was utilized in order to get an in-depth understanding of the students rsquo experiences. The participants of the current study were four eleventh graders from a senior high school in Malang District East Java. To collect the data open-ended questionnaires and interviews were used. The data were analyzed using a framework from Miles and Huberman by collecting condensing displaying and drawing conclusions from the data. The result showed that the experience was divided into three aspects (i) learning and teaching where students showed the methodological and technological aspects that allow increasing learning outcomes and their challenges (ii) engagement or commitment where students show a sense of belonging and engagement or commitment and (iii) the wellbeing of the students which shows the positive sensations and feelings of the students. It is also revealed that the ReadTheory platform and its features as an extensive reading activity helped them improve their reading skills and vocabulary knowledge. The students also had a negative experience led by some challenges related to reading comprehension and technical issues such as poor internet connections that hindered their reading activities. The current study suggests that despite the challenges the ReadTheory platform can be an advantageous choice for extensive reading.
