Abstract

Reading is a crucial language skill that allows students to gather information and acquire knowledge. This article focuses on the importance of reading in academic development and the use of scanning strategies to enhance reading skills. The research conducted at MTS Negeri 2 Kota Malang targeted eighth-grade students challenges in English reading especially with recount texts. The research involved planning implementing observing and reflecting cycles to illustrate the benefits of the scanning strategy. The scanning strategy helps students efficiently locate key information in texts improving comprehension information processing understanding text structure and finding specific details. By enhancing critical skills students acquire better access and understand texts improving overall learning outcomes. The research found that the scanning strategy positively improved students reading comprehension and increased engagement and participation indicating its enhancement in English language teaching.
