Reading comprehension is one of the problems that were faced by the 9th grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Bululawang. The students felt bored due to the texts rsquo format. The narrative text used by the teacher was usually in the form of printed long text with lack of pictures and it affects students rsquo motivation in learning narrative text. The format of the narrative texts made the students did not read the narrative texts given and resulting they did not understand the texts. Therefore this study aimed to improve students reading comprehension through the use of visual novel rsquo s concept which is branching story. This study employed Classroom Action Research in which the researcher became the teacher in the classroom and was conducted in two cycles. The instruments used in this study were students Reading Comprehension Tests and observation sheet. The criteria of success in this study were set to 75% of students improved their score by 10 points. The participant in this study was 28 students of 9G cohorts at SMP Negeri 2 Bululawang. The result shows that the use of visual novel rsquo s concept improved students reading comprehension. The students could understand the text by understanding each events that happened in the story through the strategy implemented in the classroom. This study can be used by the teacher as alternative teaching strategy in teaching narrative text. The teacher could change the story used in the branching story and make the students more exciting. While for the researchers in the future this study could help them to determine the best step or strategy that can be used in future study such as determining the best questions used in the Reading Comprehension Tests and how to use the best strategy in future study.
