Abstract

The spreading ofcoronavirus in early 2020 has affected many sectors in the world including the education sector. Students could not go to school and they were forced to adapt to online learning in a very short time. This condition becomes challenging not students and teachers because they should use Learning Management System (LMS) for online learning. It also affects the pre-service English teachers instead of doing their teaching practice at school they should teach the students online by using LMS. Thus this study investigates the pre-service English teachers rsquo experiences and perceptions towards the use of LMS in teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants were 26 pre-service teachers studying at the Department of English at Universitas Negeri Malang. This study used a descriptive quantitative research survey. Data were collected by using an online questionnaire. The result shows that LMS help the pre-service English teachers create a more effective learning environment. However pre-service English teachers experienced some problems using LMS for teaching because they never use it as a teacher before. Suggestion for the future study is to do a followed interview with some of the respondents so that the finding can be more specific to discuss or use another variable on specific LMS. This condition is a challenge for students and teachers especially pre-service English teachers. Therefore this study aims to investigate pre-service English teachers experiences and perceptions of using LMS in teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic.
