Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study was to see how Think-Pair-Share strategy was utilized to improve the ability of SMA Diponegoro eleventh grade students to read Analytical Exposition Texts.. The design of this research is Classroom Action Research. The average of the students rsquo score in the preliminary study was 53.04 that was below the minimum passing grade of the school (75). The result of the preliminary study also indicates that the students were passive during the reading session and that the time allotment for offline classes (60 minutes) was shorter than the face-to-face session (90 minutes). The researcher therefore decided to implement Think-Pair-Share strategy to solve the problems. The researcher used a reading test a questionnaire and an observation sheet to collect the data. The Think-Pair-Share strategy was deemed successful in its execution when 10 (44%) out of 23 students gained 10 points and 10 (44%) out of 23 students gave positive responses towards the implementation of Think-Pair-Share strategy. The result of the study shows that by the end of the cycle 91% of the students rsquo scores increased by at least 10 points with an average of 67.61. The students rsquo participation also increased in each meeting with 97% of them actively participated in the process of learning and teaching. The students also showed positive responses towards the implementation of Think-Pair-Share strategy.
