Abstract The objective of this research is to provide an overview of the reading preferences of students and the implications for adolescent readers. As research subjects 328 junior high school students from three grades participated in this study. The data were gathered through a survey and interview. According to the conclusions of study adolescent readers prefer to read materials concerning entertainment and lifestyle social phenomena and religion themes and they avoid reading political and business materials. They read for learning and knowledge. The examination and availability of books that match their own interests are two elements that influence their reading preferences. This study proposes teachers be more responsive to their students rsquo reading interests and provide them with reading material that is relevant to their interests and preferences due to these findings.
