The aim of the study is to establish whether English Department students preference of sitting and their English proficiency scores particularly in UKBing are correlated. Sitting preference refers to priority of a person whether he chooses to sit on certain position in the class whereas UKBing is a TOEFL light test that can measure students rsquo English proficiency. This study involved forty five students of the English Language Education 2021 in Universitas Negeri Malang. The seating preference questionnaire and UKBing scores were used to collect the data. In order to determine if there was a relationship between the variables or not the acquired data were then examined using the Spearman correlation in SPSS. According to the study s findings there is no correlation between students preferred seating and their English proficiency scores. Finally it can be said that the students choice of seating for English Language Education 2021 does not have an impact on their performance in English. As a result it is advised that teachers place more emphasis on other aspects that can affect their students English proficiency such as the learning technique or the classroom environment.
