Abstract

Teaching writing skill for junior high school students needs creativity in innovating strategy or media that suitable to make them interested as well as comfort in learning writing. Teaching foreign language means the use of method and media is urgent to help them learn better and effortless. Thus in this research which conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Kalianget Madura there were two groups of students of ninth graders using two different methods social media and paper and pen were used in teaching writing procedure text. Students rsquo writing score were analyzed to see which method were more effective to be used in teaching writing skill. Besides students rsquo response towards those two different methods were analyzed. To achieve such an aim comparative research was carried out by teaching procedure text with topics that suitable for teenagers such as how to make churros boba tteokbokki .The researcher observed the teaching and learning activities in those two groups and carried out reflection to know which method is effective to use in writing skill. The research was conducted in five treatments after pre-test and post-test were given to know their responses towards the use of two different methods. The findings from both groups showed that studnets rsquo score who used instgaram was more significance. As p-value gt 0 05 (alpha) which it can be concluded that there is significance different between variable of pre-test and post-test of group of students who used Instagram. The result of the questionnaire related to the students response towards the use Instagram in writing skill showed more positive response rather than students who used paper and pen. Since according to their questionnaire they were more comfort during learning writing. This research concludes that students who use social media have better improvement in learning English. Besides they were more interested in learning English using different method. Nevertheless students who use paper and pen were not more significance since they use it habitually and they feel bored of using it. Hence it can be concluded that different method gives students chance to learn English in different and interesting way. Interesting topic activity and theme are suggested for English teachers if they desire to use this method.
