Students in SMPN 18 Malang found difficulties in comprehending the text. There were only few students who got scores gt 80 in the reading classes. So this research was carried out in order to improve the eighth graders rsquo reading comprehension in recount text through mind mapping. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in one cycle and consisted of four meetings. The participants in the research were VIII-H students from SMPN 18 Malang during the academic year 2022/2023. According to the findings of this study mind mapping can help the students comprehend what they are reading. The criteria for the success of this research was the decreasing and increasing number of students from a determined range of scores even only one student. And from the findings of the reading comprehension test and field notes there was no number of students in the range of scores 0-40 41-50 and 51-60. And decreasing number of students in the ranges of score 61-70 from 5 to 3 students in the ranges of score 71-80 from 19 to 1 student and increasing number in the ranges of score 81-100 from 3 to 27 students after the application of mind mapping in learning. Furthermore it was discovered that mind mapping made the students to find back the important information from a text more easier re-collect the difficult words comprehend the content of the text and find enjoyment and comfort in learning.
