Abstract

This study aims to investigate vocational high school students rsquo perception toward the contribution of simulation video games to acquire ESP vocabulary. The subjects of this study were 55 students in the second grade of computer network engineering (Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan/TKJ) in a vocational high school in Tulungagung. A quantitative descriptive research with survey design was conducted. An online questionnaire was used to collect the data. The data were analyzed descriptively and Likert scaling was used to scale the perceptions of the respondents. The result shows 83% of the students have positive perceptions on playing video games in general 52.7% of the students had played simulation video games and 93.4% of those students who had played simulation video games reported that they had positive perceptions concerning simulation video games in acquiring ESP vocabulary. The result of the research indicates simulation video games contributed positively to students rsquo ESP vocabulary acquisition. Simulation video games helped students to acquire ESP vocabulary and memorized the words helped them to know more about computer components improved their understanding of ESP vocabularies and motivated them. The data also indicates that students can acquire a lot of ESP vocabularies at once by playing simulation video games.
