Abstract

This study investigated the department of English students perception of using English monologue podcasts to improve English listening skills. It employed a survey involving sixty-one Department of English students who enrolled in an Advanced Listening Class. The data were gathered using online questionnaires and interviews. The findings revealed that some department of English students have a favorable attitude towards the use of English monologue podcasts to improve their listening skills. English monologue podcasts are seen as useful in three ways. First students used English monologue podcasts as authentic listening resources and learned the use of English formally or informally. Second they used English monologue podcasts to increase their listening abilities since it allowed them to expand their vocabulary recognize the topic in spoken language differentiate English accents and improve their listening micro-skills. Third students utilized English monologue podcasts to motivate themselves because they believe English monologue podcasts are widely available and cover a wide range of themes. However most of the department of English students face a few problems confusion in choosing a topic inability to follow speakers rsquo speech rate and lack of visuals in audio type.
