Abstract

The stage of language mixing in Indonesian society is developing from within sentences to within words. The developing language mixing within words occurs in the form of mixing affix(es) and roots from Indonesian and English mostly found in Twitter Indonesia. This combination can be quickly claimed as hybrid in language or linguistic. Sanchez-Stockhammer (2012) suggests that linguistic hybrids or the combination of more than two languages are allowed without any problem. Meanwhile in the case of Indonesia-English might occur some issues regarding the morphological process that affect morphophonemic process for certain Indonesian affixes. This study believes that morphophonemic process is necessary for identifying the hybrid Indonesian-English words which can be considered as properly hybrid due to the using analysis of linguistic hybridity at the level of words and morphophonemics perspectives. The data are obtained from Twitter Indonesia with 52 hybrid Indonesian-English words. The result shows only 8 from the data collection with Indonesian affixation that can be considered properly hybrid as a proof morphophonemics is feasible for determining hybrid words linguistically alongside with linguistic hybridity at the level of words under several requirements according to the word rsquo s form meaning and etymology. As a result the presumably hybrid words which are constructed in Twitter Indonesia are not always hybrid however some of them can be considered hybrid by following some rules.
