Abstract

This article focuses on the subtitling strategies used in translating the Weverse live broadcast replays into Indonesian and the impact on the audiences rsquo interest. This study applied a mixed method where qualitative design was used to describe the subtitling strategy used by the official and fan subtitlers in producing Indonesian subtitles. The quantitative design was done by conducting an online survey to determine the impact of subtitling strategies from the audiences rsquo perspective on K-pop fans and non-fans. The result showed that Weverse rsquo s official subtitle (N 225 data) used eight subtitling strategies. The most used strategy by the official subtitle is transfer with 84 data. Meanwhile the Tiktok fansub consisted of 445 data and ten subtitle strategies were used. The most used strategy by the fansubber is expansion with 104 data. From that subtitlers should use expansion in subtitling the broadcast to engage K-pop fans audiences. Meanwhile subtitlers can use transfer and expansion to engage general audiences including fans and non-fans. By doing so the subtitles can be more engaging for all audiences and the subtitler community can improve their subtitle to match the audiences rsquo interest.
