This thesis explores the alignment between Rosemarie Tong s liberal feminist values and the portrayal of the protagonist Beth Harmon in The Queen rsquo s Gambit 2020 Netflix series. Employing content analysis the study delves into how Beth embodies the values of equal opportunity equal education equal liberty suffrage and recognition of sameness within the context of her journey in the world of competitive chess. Drawing from Tong s framework as presented in Feminist Thought A More Comprehensive Introduction (2009) the analysis highlights pivotal scenes that underscore Beth s pursuit of autonomy her demand for equal access to education and opportunities and her defiance of societal constraints. Through meticulous examination of specific scenes the study illustrates how Beth s journey serves as a vivid illustration of the values advocated by liberal feminism. Ultimately this research contributes to a deeper understanding of how The Queen rsquo s Gambit resonates with the principles of liberal feminism showcasing how Beth s narrative mirrors the broader feminist agenda of dismantling gender-based limitations and empowering women to achieve their full potential.
