Televised presidential debates play a paramount role in the electoral process as these can set up the candidates rsquo image and influence voting behaviour. This has always been a newsworthy and an in-demand topic for news media as journalism and politics play a central role in democratic societies. This study revisits the 2019 Indonesian presidential and vice presidential debates in order to gain a complete understanding of the sociopolitical goal in news discourse and constitute additions to the previous studies done. It aims to unravel how The Jakarta Post frames Jokowi-Ma rsquo ruf and Prabowo-Sandi during the five series of debates using Fairclough rsquo s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) that covers three interrelated dimensions (micro meso macro). Halliday rsquo s ideational metafunction (transitivity) is employed as an approach to the micro-structural dimension in textually analysing 37 news items retrieved. The findings show that The Jakarta Post coverage of the debates is Jokowi-centric. Jokowi and Ma rsquo ruf received more positive framing than Prabowo and Sandi. As the 2024 Indonesian presidential election heats up this study principally serves a theoretical implication that manifestly illustrates the news discourse of The Jakarta Post during the 2019 Indonesian presidential debates.
