Abstract

Simple present tenseis the most frequently used of all other English tenses. However English teachers frequently see that students get bored while being taught and studying so they should be aware of using attractive methods such as using games in the process of teaching and learning. Therefore the purpose of this study is to explore the use of lsquo Guest What I Do rsquo game to improve students grammar skills in the simple present tense. The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subjects are eighth-grade students at SMPN 12 Malang during the 2018/2019 academic year. This research was finished in two weeks. The results show that there were 27 out of 31 students or 87% of the students who reached the criterion of success which was 75. The students average score in the preliminary test was 65. Then the average score derived from the final test was improved to 87.71 after the implementation of the strategy. Therefore it can be determined that using a game to improve students grammar skills in the simple present tense is an effective strategy.
